According to 2011 study by the Institute of Medicine, one third of Americans suffer from chronic pain.  That’s more than all of patients with heart disease, diabetes and cancer combined.

“Chronic pain is pain that lasts for 3 months or longer,” says Pain Care of San Diego’s Medical Director, Michael Moon, M.D..  “Quite often it is moderate and annoying, but sometimes the pain is severe enough to interfere with daily activities.”

Because of medical conditions frequently associated with aging such as diabetes and arthritis, chronic pain is more common in older adults, but it’s not a normal part of aging.  Chronic pain can occur anywhere in your body, and anyone can get it.
