The average adult head weighs 10 pounds when it’s in the upright or neutral position. But if you are constantly bending your head at a 60 degree angle toward your smart phone, you are putting 60 pounds’ worth of pressure on your cervical spine and potentially causing a repetitive stress injury with symptoms like headaches, neck pain and shoulder pain.

To combat “text neck” try to maintain the natural curve of your body by holding your phone at eye level and keep your head up while you text or read. Yoga and other back-strenghtening exercises will also help. And don’t forget to see your chiropractor regularly for pain-reducing adjustments.
